From Monday to Friday, I spend my time in the classroom teaching maths to teenagers. It's one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it gives me purpose. The job seems to become more rewarding each year as it reveals new layers of meaning that help me understand human connection.
Establishing a daily meditation practice in 2018 helped me overcome several personal challenges by reframing the views that once made life feel so rigid and difficult. More recently, learning about the path of Karma Yoga has helped me see life's challenges as opportunities for growth and acceptance rather than denial and resistance.
Outside of work, I do my best to maintain some semblance of mental and physical health through exercise, meditation, and prioritising healthy foods and sleeping habits. In doing so, I feel I can function more optimally in my career, relationships, and creative endeavours. I try to stay relatively disciplined for 80% of the time and allow myself the other 20% to enjoy socialising, good food and the odd late night here and there.
After all, life is to be lived, and there is no substitute for learning from your experiences. Lessons can be found in the most unexpected places and situations, at least if you have a Beginner's Mind to receive them.
When time allows, I also enjoy reading and writing about my experiences, and of course, making music, creating mixes, or archiving my CD collection for others to enjoy.
